On Saturday morning I read on the internet about these sheep dog competitions. It sounded adventuresome, so we called Jared and Jamie and drove south of Dallas and ended up in this big field watching this show. This first picture is showing the dog getting the sheep out of the pen. The dog has to guide the sheep down this path and into the open field and keep them from wandering. It was interesting to watch. We saw lots of dogs in kennels being carried in fancy trailers. The people were nice, but we were definetly the outsiders. We didn't even have a dog.

Here they are walking down the path. It was hard to get a picture of the dog and the sheep together because the dog is often far away from the sheep.

Looking at the sheep in their pen. Colin loves dogs and he liked the sheep to. Jackson liked running around in the field.

These are some of the nice sheep we observed and they observed us too.

One lady let Colin pet this nice Border Collie. We watched the Border Collies later herd some sheep inside a smaller pen. They responded to the whistle sounds their owner was giving. This dog has his eyes on the penned up sheep. He was very anxious to get to his performance. time.

It was an enjoyable time. We sat out in our chairs, ate a picnic lunch and watched the sheepdogs. We also watched alot of Colin escaping down the hill.

That looks like a fun, relaxing Saturday. I think it is amazing that they can train those dogs to respond to whistles. I remember trying to train one of our dogs. I thought heel meant to stop - probably no suprising that the training was not very effective.
