Capital Bldg

Capitol Building in Washington D.C.

We began our adventure in Washington D.C. with a ride on the metro to Union Station and a short walk to find the capitol building.

We entered beneath the building with hundreds of people who had booked a tour with their congressman.

We had a nice young intern who attended Ft. Worth Country Day before going to the University of Austin, guide us through the several rooms and layers.

We climbed to the room where people are lain in state. The most recent person was Rosa Parks.

All along the hallways are statues and then you go into the Hall of Statues. This was a gorgeous room with paintings on the ceiling and all around the upper edges and then many, many statues . Each state gets to have two statues.

We saw Sam Houston and Brigham Young.

We left that room and passed through a room once used by the Supreme Court.

Then we entered the top of the dome. This was absolutely breathtaking! In there hangs a priceless chandelier which illuminates the glass dome.

Inaugurations take place just beyond and below the railing.

Inauguration area. The capital is an absolutely gorgeous building. How do they keep it so white?
