Dad's Birthday #62

We all always feel badly about missing Dad's birthday. School has just begun, we tired, it's hot and Dad always says, "Don't get me anything." So I don't. This year Jared and Jamie came over that evening and gave Dad a new webcam. We called Heidi and had a good time seeing each other on the webcam. I bought Dad a Snickers cake and some Blue Bell. We ate a little of that and Jackson and Jared helped sing Happy Birthday. We thought the birthday time was done.


The next day Ethan, Shelby and Linkin surprised Grandpa with some homemade cookies and a big hug.

Delivering the cookies and singing to Grandpa. So, that was great and I thought the birthday time was done.

A few days later, Grandpap brings home and electric smoker, just like the one Jared has. "I decided to buy myself a present."

A few days later we went to Cabela's and Grandpa said, "I have to have this outdoor table to go with my smoker so I can prepare my meats."

The next day he had about 25# of meat smoking away. You could smell it in the neighborhood, inside the house and when I sat down next to him at church-he smelled like the smoker. So were happy that he is happy with his birthday presents to himself. But then...

a few days later we were at Academy buying a new canoe! Here is a picture of it sticking out of the van so we could haul it home. Next he had to order a canoe carrier to install on the top of the van. Notice the blue wheels sticking up on the end of the canoe.

Dad made this little device out of pcv pipe and plastic wheels that he pushes to the ground to help slide the canoe off of the van. It's so ingenious!. So now we have a canoe, a carrier for the van, paddles, life jackets, a new smoker, a new outdoor table all for someone who said, "Don't get me anything for my birthday." Love you Dad!
